주한미군, 발리카탄 연습 참가

미 8군 병력, 인도적 지원 연습을 위해 필리핀에 파견

대한민국, 서울 –미8군은 4월 5일에서 15일까지 실시되는 발리카탄 2011연습에 참가하기 위해 필리핀에 500여명의 장병을 파견할 예정이다.

 

미 제 2보병사단 제7기갑연대 4수색대대 장병들은 6,000여명의 다른 미 장병들과 함께 연습에 참가하게 된다.

 

발리카탄 2011연습은 자연 재해 및 공공 안전과 건강을 위협하는 다른 위기 상황 발생 시에 인도적 구호와 지원 활동을 더욱 더 원활하게 하기 위해 진행되는 미군과 필리핀군간의 연합 훈련이다.

 

미군과 필리핀군 장병들은 루손 섬 중부 및 남부에서 지역 사회에 대한 인도적 지원 프로젝트를 펼치게 된다. 의료병들은 무료로 의과, 치의과 및 수의과 진료를 제공할 것이며, 공병들은 학교와 필요한 다른 사회 기반 시설들을 건축 및 수리하는  역할을 맡게 된다.

 

발리카탄 2011연습은 대한민국에 주둔하는 미군 장병들에게 특별하고 능동적인 훈련 경험을 제공하는 동시에 군과 지역 사회와의 건설적인 관계 형성을 통해 긍극적으로 한미 동맹과 동아시아 지역의 안보를 튼튼히 하는 기회가 될 것이다.

 

올해의 연습은 역대 27번째의 미-필리핀 연합 훈련이며, 미국-필리핀 상호방위조약과 주둔군 협정에 의거해서 실시된다.

Eighth Army Soldiers to Deploy to Philippines for Humanitarian Assistance Exercise

                                                                                                          

SEOUL, Republic of Korea – 8^th Army will deploy approximately 500 Soldiers to the Republic of the Philippines to participate in the Balikatan 2011 exercise April 5-15, 2011.

             Members of the 4^th Squadron, 7^th Cavalry Regiment, 2^nd Infantry Division will join approximately 6,000 U.S. service members during the exercise.

The focus of Balikatan 2011 is combined training with the armed forces of the Philippines to be better prepared to provide humanitarian relief and assistance in the event of natural disasters and other crises that endanger public health and safety.

Philippine and U.S. service members will conduct humanitarian assistance projects in communities in Central and Southern Luzon.  Military medical personnel will offer free medical, dental and veterinary care, and military engineers will construct and repair schools and other infrastructure in communities in need of assistance. 

Balikatan 2011 provides unique and dynamic training opportunities for U.S. forces stationed in the Republic of Korea while also promoting relationship-building between militaries and local communities that will ultimately yield long-term security dividends for the region and the ROK-U.S. Alliance.

This will be the 27th in this series of annual bilateral exercises and is held under the auspices of the Philippine-U.S Mutual Defense Treaty and Visiting Forces Agreement.
